Product Overview

The BS Y Strainer PN16 (Model 5002) is a ductile iron, Y-pattern pipeline strainer designed to remove solid debris, scale, rust, and foreign particles from water and neutral oil systems — protecting downstream pumps, control valves, meters, and process equipment from fouling, erosion, and blockage. Featuring a GGG50 ductile iron body, removable stainless steel strainer screen, leakproof bolted bonnet cover, EN1092 PN10/PN16 flange connections, and 100% FBE coating, the Model 5002 provides reliable particulate filtration from DN50 to DN300. Manufactured by Shandong Huaze Valve Co., Ltd. (ISO 9001, established 1998), each strainer is tested to EN 1074 standards at 24 bar shell pressure.

A Y strainer is a critical protective device in any pumped or gravity-fed fluid system. Installed upstream of sensitive equipment, it traps pipeline debris that would otherwise score pump impellers, score valve seats, clog spray nozzles, jam check valve discs, and damage flow meter mechanisms. The Y-pattern body shape — with the strainer element installed at a 45-degree angle to the main flow — provides a generous filtration area while maintaining a compact, in-line installation profile that fits between standard pipe flanges.

Key Features

GGG50 Ductile Iron Body — Strong, Tough, Durable

Cast from EN-GJS-500-7 ductile iron with 500 MPa tensile strength, 320 MPa yield, and minimum 7% elongation. Compared to gray cast iron strainers, the Model 5002 offers double the structural strength with dramatically superior impact and crack resistance — important for pipeline strainers that may experience occasional water hammer or debris impact loading. The ductile iron body retains its pressure integrity even at the full 24 bar shell test pressure.

Removable Stainless Steel Strainer Screen — Easy Maintenance

The perforated stainless steel 304 strainer element (standard 1.5 mm perforations; fine mesh options available on request) slides into the Y-leg chamber. When cleaning is required — typically indicated by a rising differential pressure across the strainer or during scheduled maintenance — simply remove the bolted bonnet cover, withdraw the screen, clean or replace, and reassemble. The entire process takes minutes without removing the strainer body from the pipeline. The stainless steel screen resists corrosion throughout its service life.

Leakproof Bolted Bonnet — Reliable Sealing

The Y-leg cover is secured with a full complement of stainless steel A2-70 bolts and sealed with an EPDM gasket. This bolted design — as opposed to a threaded plug — provides uniform gasket compression, reliable sealing at full operating pressure, and easy opening/closing with standard tools. No special spanners, no stripped threads, no leaks at the cover joint.

EN1092 Flange Connections — Standard, Universal Compatibility

Flanges drilled to EN1092 PN10 and PN16 — the European standard flange specification used worldwide. This ensures direct bolt-up compatibility with EN 1092-standard pipe flanges, valves, pumps, and fittings. No adaptor flanges required. The PN16-rated body accepts bolting at PN16 bolt circle dimensions. Standard face-to-face dimensions allow in-line replacement of existing strainers without pipework modification.

100% FBE Coating — Total Corrosion Protection

Fusion bonded epoxy applied electrostatically to all internal and external surfaces at minimum 250 um DFT — internal flow path, Y-leg chamber, external body, and flange faces. Oven-cured to form a chemically cross-linked thermosetting barrier. Individually spark-tested at 3 kV. In water systems with chlorine or chloramine residuals, or in high-humidity pump-room environments, the FBE coating protects the ductile iron body for the full design life of the installation.

Y-Pattern Design — Efficient Filtration, Low Pressure Drop

The Y-pattern body positions the strainer element at a 45-degree angle to the flow direction, providing a filtration surface area 3-4 times larger than the pipe cross-section. This large open area means low initial pressure drop, longer intervals between cleaning, and continued adequate flow even as the screen accumulates debris. The Y-leg is oriented downward for horizontal pipe installations, allowing gravity to assist debris collection in the strainer chamber.
