A gate valve is a common linear motion isolation valve widely used in oil, gas, water treatment and chemical pipelines. Its simple and compact structure ensures stable sealing, low flow resistance and long service life under harsh working conditions.
The main components of a gate valve include the valve body, bonnet, gate disc, valve stem, packing gland, handwheel and sealing gaskets. The valve body is the main pressure-bearing part, generally made of cast iron, carbon steel or stainless steel. It provides a straight-through flow channel to minimize fluid resistance. The bonnet is fixed on the top of the valve body, protecting internal parts and ensuring structural tightness.
The gate disc is the core closing component. It moves vertically up and down perpendicular to the fluid flow to realize full opening or full closing. Wedge-shaped gate discs are the most common type, which can achieve tight sealing under high pressure. The valve stem connects the handwheel and the gate disc, transmitting torque to control the lifting movement of the gate.
The packing and gland are installed at the stem penetration position to prevent medium leakage. High-quality graphite or PTFE packing ensures flexible stem movement and excellent airtight performance. In addition, the bottom sealing seat is precisely machined to match the gate surface, achieving bubble-tight shut-off when fully closed.
Thanks to its reasonable structural design, the gate valve features simple assembly, easy disassembly and convenient maintenance. The straight internal pipeline avoids sediment accumulation, making it suitable for long-term fully open or fully closed working conditions. With reliable mechanical structure, gate valves remain one of the most essential isolation valves in modern industrial fluid systems.
